I love Smoothies!
Guilty pleasure- buying smoothies from my local smoothie cafe. Even writing this has me salivating for my acai favorite. Thankfully they are closed right now. Smoothies are a great way to get your daily dose of fruits and vegetables. They’re also portable, so you can take them on the go. Smoothies are perfect for breakfast, lunch—or whenever you need a boost of vitamins. Smoothies can be made with all sorts of different ingredients and add-ins. And if you make them at home they are probably healthier(no additives) and more cost-conscious than the er $8 Acai at my favorite cafe.
Most people like smoothies because they’re tasty, refreshing, and filling—but did you know that there’s a secret ingredient that can make your smoothie even healthier? Microgreens! These tiny leaves pack in tons of vitamins and minerals as well as powerful antioxidants.
Here are 3 of my top smoothies I make at home.
Berry Nice
Ingredients:
2 cups of frozen mixed berries (blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, acai)
3 large handfuls of spinach or baby kale
1 handful of microgreens (broccoli microgreens or pea shoots work well)
1 cup milk of your choice
1/2 cup plain yogurt
2 tablespoons chia seeds (or seed of your choice) I like flax as well
Blend with ice until smooth(especially if you are like me and don’t like melted ice cream) Get a big straw. A stuck piece of fruit in your straw is no fun.
Avocado
Ingredients:
One Tbs. lemon or lime juice
One ripe avocado but not too ripe
1 cup of any kind of milk. For a thick smoothie, coconut is great!
Dash of cayenne pepper or chipotle chili powder. So addicting!
Dash of salt if desired
1/2 cup leafy sprouts or sunflower greens.
1 Tbs. fresh basil
1 Tbs. honey or agave, or other sweetener, if desired.
Blend until smooth.
